The 150MW rooftop distributed solar photovoltaic project in the Xiaogan Air-Space Economic Zone in Hubei, China, is a major new energy project with a total investment of about RMB 626 million, wholly self-financed by Xiaogan Air-Space Science and Technology Development Co. Ltd. and with an estimated average annual power generation of 159 million kWh, it is the largest single rooftop distributed solar photovoltaic demonstration project in Central China, covering PV power generation and construction of ancillary facilities, and demonstrating the The project demonstrates the region's emphasis on green energy and strongly promotes local economic development and environmental protection.

I. Project Background and Scale

1. Location Advantage:

The project is located in Xiaogan Lingkong Economic Zone, covering the core parks such as Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park and Gaochuang Intelligent Industrial Park, with a total roof area of 1,064,200 square meters, involving 21 buildings such as enterprise factories and logistics warehouses.

2. Installed scale:

The total installed capacity of photovoltaic is 150MW, using monocrystalline silicon modules, with an annual power generation of 41,218,400,000 kWh, accounting for 4.2% of the industrial electricity consumption in Xiaogan City.

3. Investment main body:

Led by Xiaogan Chuangju Energy Co., Ltd. and jointly with Hunan Red Sun New Energy Technology, a centralized enterprise, to implement EPC general contracting, with a total investment of RMB 625 million.

Ⅱ.The core technology program

1. BIPV building integration

In the roof structure, Atlas double-sided BiHiKu7 photovoltaic modules are used, which have a conversion efficiency of 22.8%, and are installed in an integrated manner with the roof steel structure, reducing the load by 30%.

The solar panels are reserved for lighting strips and operation and maintenance channels, realizing a balance between roof coverage of 95% and building functions.

2. Intelligent Operation and Maintenance System

This project deploys an intelligent energy management platform, which can monitor parameters such as module temperature and irradiance in real time, with a fault response time of less than 2 hours.

In order to improve the operation and maintenance cost, it implements the innovative application of drone inspection technology, with a single-day inspection area of 50,000 square meters, reducing the operation and maintenance cost by 40%.

IV. Comprehensive Benefit Analysis

1. Economic Benefits

Calculated over the whole life cycle25 , the total income can reach RMB 3.72 billion with a payback period of 6.8 years.

It can effectively reduce the cost of electricity consumption of enterprises in the park by RMB 0.15/kWh, and can enhance the competitiveness of products in the market accordingly.

2. Ecological benefits

With the PV power generation officially put into use, it can replace 51,000 tons of standard coal/year, which is equivalent to planting 6.9 million trees.
In summer, the use of photovoltaic power generation on the roof can reduce the temperature of the roof by 8-10℃, while reducing the energy consumption of air conditioning by 20%.

3. Social benefits

With the construction and put into use of PV, it can effectively drive the local employment of 320 people and train 45 PV operation and maintenance technicians.

The newly built 18km of local park roads can optimize the efficiency of logistics and transportation and enhance economic activity.

V. Progress of PV Project Implementation

By September 2023, the EPC bidding had been completed and the first 5MW modules were installed in the laser industrial park.

By the end of December 2024, the 42.5MW of Gaochuang ZhiZhuang Industrial Park was connected to the grid, and it was awarded as the Green Low Carbon Demonstration Park of Hubei Province.

In February of this year, the full capacity of 150MW of the PV project was put into production, becoming the largest rooftop distributed PV cluster in central China.
